More than 60% of the energy used by European industry is for heat.

This heat has traditionally come from fossil fuels – but it does not have to.

Increasingly, industrial heat pumps can help decarbonise heat supply within industries. In fact, 37% of industry’s heat demand can be met by heat pumps, which can reach temperatures of up to 200°C.

This helps save energy and reduce emissions!

Heat pumps do this by reusing waste heat – for example, when heat is lost into the air it can be captured – and by generating renewable energy. Find out more at two events on 28 and 29 January – more.

Industrial heat pumps are already being used in industries like paper and pulp, wood, dairy, fruits, vegetables, paint, food, textiles.

The European Commission’s upcoming ‘Clean Industrial Deal’ will focus on boosting clean tech, and the ‘Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act will look at how to speed up clean tech for energy intensive sectors.

Industrial heat pumps should be at the centre of both of these, as well as the European Commission’s Electrification Action Plan and the Heating and Cooling strategy.
