EHPA applauds the ambitious goal set by the European Commission in the Strategy for a prosperous, modern, competitive and climate neutral economy by 2050 – A Clean Planet for all, that has been published yesterday, 28th November. However, to become reality, this vision will require that only the compatible scenarios are implemented, and that priority is given to the decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector.

Thomas Nowak, Secretary general of the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) said “We understand that proposing two scenarios complying with the IPCC requirements for a decarbonised society has required strong leadership by both Vice President Sefčovič and Commissioner Cañete! We hope that the process will allow more efforts to be made in decarbonising the heating and cooling sector by 2050. The technologies needed are already available today to substantiate a super-proportional level of ambition. What is missing now is the best set of policy options to integrate the existing solutions in an efficient and citizen-friendly manner”.
