According to the latest figures published by the German Heat Pump Association BWP, a total of 84 000 heating heat pump units were sold in Germany in 2018. In addition, 15 000 hot water units were sold, leading to a total sales of heat pump technology of 99 000. The biggest individual segment were air-source heat pumps with 60 500 units. Ground-coupled heat pumps saw a growth of 2% to 23 500 units.
The German heat pump stock is totaling out at 880 000 units. While this is positive news, Martin Sabel, Managing Director of BWP concludes that the potential for heat pumps in Germany is far bigger, and much higher sales are mandatory if Germany is to achieve its climate and energy targets.
