Research (H2020, SET-plan)

Background

The EC’s Energy Union strategy dedicates one of its five dimensions to research, innovation and competitiveness. From a heat pump perspective the most important topics relating to research in a European framework are Horizon 2020 and the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan). Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. The SET-plan aims to accelerate the development and deployment of low-carbon technologies. It seeks to improve new technologies and bring down costs by coordinating research and helping to finance projects. A communication addressing the role of the SET-Plan will be adopted in September 2015.
