Enhanced trade policy to facilitate export of EU technologies (TTIP, EGA)

Background

An example of enhanced trade policies that affect the heat pump industry is the Green Goods Initiative. In July 2014 the EU and 13 other members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) launched negotiations to liberalise global trade in environmental goods. The initiative aims to remove barriers to trade and investment in ’green’ goods, services and technologies.

Also, in 2013 EU governments gave the EC a mandate to negotiate a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Negotiations started in June 2013. Since then there have been eight negotiating rounds with the United States. A possible agreement would have an immediate impact on regulatory trade barriers. The negotiations include the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors.
