Imperial innovation prize for CO2 heat pump system

Jul. 20, 2010 – High interest by the competing companies and appraisal by peers secured Denso's patent of a CO2 heat pump hot water system an exceptional high patent score as well as Japan's imperial innovation prize. From all patents submitted in Japan in the first half of 2010, a CO2 heat pump hot water system by Denso scored 82.4 points (out of 100) and achieved A rating.

Japan uses a peer-to-patent examination process to assess patents. This process invites the public to share information, knowledge, and expertise with patent examiners about the patent applications. Very often, valuable information such as prior art documents pertinent to reviewed applications are obtained.

One of the main criteria in the rating is the interest manifested by competing companies, which in this case was very high with 13 competing companies commenting on the patent application.
