Heat pumps win: best practice examples distinguished in German energy savings competition

Jul. 02, 2009 – The German Energy Agency (DENA) and the federal ministry for the environment were searching for hidden champions in the housing renovation sector - and found four winners!

The competition geared at buildings that were build before 1995 and have undergone renovation activities including the use of renewables.

Prices are awarded include the use of

- Solar thermal energy

- Biomass

- Heat pumps

- combined systems.

The major criterion is a high efficiency of the final system and its smart integration into the given situation.

The winners were announced at a public ceremony in May 2009. Not only do the distinguished winners of the category "heat pumps" show an innovative and efficient use of the technology in the renovation sector, but also did a multi-family building using heat pump technology and solar thermal collectors make the first rank in the category "combined systems".
