Heat pumps move into the automotive sector

Jan. 18, 2010 – Audi Corporation presented the e-tron, a 3,93 m long and 1,78 m wide (and only 1,22 m 'high') two-seater at the Detroit motor show. As electric motors do not provide enough waste heat to heat the cabin, Audi employs a heat pump to efficiently perform this task!

Audi explicitely mentions the heat pump as a 'revolutionary detail' along the lines with the drive system, the power electronics and the battery (wich an innovative thermal management to increase durability).

With the increasing market for electric cars expected to increase, the heat pump is ready to be used in yet another mass market.
