EurObserv'ER releases first Barometer dedicated to heat pumps

Oct. 16, 2009 – Ground source heat pumps are considered a comfortable, economic and environmentally friendly form of heating, with over 100,000 units installed annually for the last three years in the countries of the European Union. During the year 2008 112,157 systems have been sold driving the market back into growth (up 9.5 %), after dipping slightly between 2006 and 2007. By the end of 2008, the total number of systems installed in the European Union was estimated at over 780,000, equivalent to approximately 8,920.2 MWth of capacity.

In addition, information on aerothermal heat pumps markets is also provided, as the new European Directive (2009/28/EC) reintroduces this type of system into the renewable energy definition.
